The field trip, inspired by Edward Hopper

The field trip

Today is the day that we are traveling to the zoo for our class field trip. All of my fellow fruit buddies are very excited. I have heard a lot of good things about the Homo Sapien exhibit.  I heard that one time, one of the humans busted through the glass and tried to eat some fruit. But I don’t really put much stock in stories like that. From what I have learned, the humans can actually be very peaceful. They used to celebrate strange holidays, and host random get-togethers with their friends. But then it all went bad. One day the humans had gotten a new leader. This leader was not a nice man though. He decided to mutate the fruits and vegetables until they were of an appropriate size, then he would feed us to the hungry people of his country. One day, a great ancestor of the orange had enough. He gathered all of the fruits, and the vegetables and we started a war. Without the humans eating us, they became very malnourished. We won the war, but we decided that we didn’t want all of the humans to die, because they did help us when we first began to form. But we instead put them in the zoos, and the local schools all take field trips to visit them. It is good to know your history, so that you can respect who fought for the very freedom we have today.

  1. What an interesting perspective flip, Glenda--the fruit looking out the window at us instead of us looking in. You've got a creative mind!
