I am poem

I am,
Artistic, the pencil off of SpongeBob bringing pictures to life with ease.
Smart, taped framed glasses and report cards on the fridge.
Short, the time you have to spend with the people you love.
A sister, the coldness that will eventually thaw and melt away and we're finally seeing one another as a peer.
Peaceful, the sun shining gently down on a meadow as a bird sings.
Funny, laughing until the stomach pains force you to stop.
Young, thinking that I know everything about everyone around me. Never admitting that I am the one who needs help. Never letting those who are wiser beyond my years give me any advice.
Hopeful, the world will one day blossom into what I know it can become.
Musical, the song of a small child singing at the top of their lungs just aching to break free.
Simple, being satisfied with the little things around me. Hiding the elf on the shelf around Christmas time to spread excitement around the house. Having my sister tell me about her day after school, that brings my so much joy.
Optimistic, always thinking that people can change. The sick dog that gets better because you hoped it would.
A daughter, always testing the boundaries. Being recognized as a “mini” version of those who raised you, yet still being yourself.
A girl, lipstick and nail polish playing with other girls.
Happy, smiling in the hallways where others sulk along to their classes.
A friend, giving advice and making an awkward joke to stop the tears.
Strange, a unicorn on top of a walrus surfing the solar nebula pre-Big Bang.

  1. That final thought is set apart both in font and kookiness! : ) I like what you said about knowing you and your sister would eventually "thaw" towards one another and really bond. I also like your appreciation for the little stuff and your optimistic attitude. And your awareness that you know you don't know everything but aren't willing to listen yet. Thanks for sharing a bit of yourself, Glenda!

  2. Hey Glenda,
I like that you used adjectives as the first word to describe yourself. It was very easy to get to know you because you used that writing style. I also like to think of myself as artistic and musical. My favorite part of your poem was how you described your love of the little things in life. I also have that philosophy.
I hope this lovely Friday treats you well!
